Daphne Blake

The damsel in distress and the fighting heroine

A hilarious nerdlesque act based on the character of Daphne from the Scooby Doo franchise.

Drawing on the characterisation of Daphne in the early Scooby Doo cartoons, and images of pin-up girls in bondage or 'damsel in distress' positions, this act is all about the back and forth between the ultra-feminine damsel who is always kidnapped, and the heroine fighter who takes on masculine traits. This act considers two quite old school stereotypes of how women are portayed in film, before more nuanced characterisation.

This act has a strong storytelling element and uses the songs and backing tracks from the original cartoons. It's a great act for nerdlesque fans, anyone who loves the nostalgia of Scooby Doo and works very well for Halloween.

Scooby Doo nostalgia!

The act begins with the original soundtrack to the Scooby Doo episodes. After the introduction, a ghost enters the stage, who scares Daphne, until she realises the ghost is just wearing a costume.

After pulling the sheet off, the monster tries to scare Daphne again with vampire teeth. By this point, she's sick of being scared. The act cuts to the famous quote from the live action movie; "I'm so over this damsel in distress nonsense." ... "I'm a black belt now. I've transformed my body into a dangerous weapon."

The track turns to The Man with the Hex by The Atomic Fireballs - also used in the live action movie. The choreography is inspired by pin up girl poses, bondage imagery, cartoon steps and classic burlesque moves.
